Op 15 en 16 oktober 2015 organiseren het Democratische Zelfbestuur van Rojava (West-Koerdistan) en New World Summit onder de noemer Stateless Democracy de vijfde New World Summit, die plaatsvindt in de stad Derîk in het canton Cizîre van Rojava (Syrisch Koerdistan). New World Summit is een door kunstenaar Jonas Staal opgerichte artistieke en politieke organisatie die bestaat uit vormgevers, theoretici, kunstenaars en andere culturele werkers. Dit collectief organiseert summits waar stateloze politieke groeperingen samenkomen. BAK, basis voor actuele kunst is een samenwerkingspartner van New World Summit en ondersteunt de huidige vijfde summit in Rojava door doorlopende betrokkenheid bij de activiteiten van de New World Academy en de Koerdische Vrouwenbeweging rond het thema ‘stateloze democratie’.

Op de vijfde New World Summit gaan vertegenwoordigers van het Democratische Zelfbestuur van Rojava in debat met leden van stateloze en politieke organisaties van over de hele wereld. De summit wordt georganiseerd ter gelegenheid van de bouw van een nieuw publiek parlement dat ontwikkeld is door het Democratische Zelfbestuur van Rojava en de New World Summit. De summit biedt een reflectie op de strijd, de geschiedenis en de gevolgen van de Rojava-revolutie en concentreert zich in het bijzonder op het model van democratisch confederalisme, dat ook wel bekendstaat als ‘stateloze democratie’.

In zes blokken, die achtereenvolgens betrekking hebben op de thema’s democratisch confederalisme, seksegelijkheid, secularisme, zelfverdediging, communalisme en sociale ecologie, gaan de deelnemers aan de bijeenkomst een vergelijking aan van autonomistische en onafhankelijkheidsbewegingen wereldwijd. Ze zetten een kritisch debat in gang en werken aan onderlinge solidariteit, om zo te bouwen aan de totstandkoming van een gemeenschappelijke, nieuwe wereld.

These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.
