Live uitgezonden vanuit BAK, Utrecht en Granville, OhioOp 13 mei 2021 vindt de derde bijeenkomst van Fragments of Repair/Gatherings: Utopianism, Anti-Utopianism, and the Radical Politics of Chronotopian Ungovernability* plaats, bestaande uit een lezing door politiek- en ethiektheoreticus Omedi Ochieng (Granville, OH), gevolgd door een gesprek tussen Ochieng en BAK’s curator public practice Rachael Rakes.      

Omedi Ochieng stelt in deze lezing een praktijk voor van  ‘chronotopian ungovernability’ (‘chronotopische onbestuurbaarheid’),  als een voorlopige, contingente en radicale reactie op de klimaatcrisis. 

Ochieng ziet de huidige tijd als zowel anti-utopisch als utopisch. Wat deze twee schijnbaar tegengestelde sociale stromingen met elkaar verbindt, is een fundamentele oppositie tegen een ‘chronotopisch radicalisme’. Deze antiradicale houding komt volgens Ochieng voort uit een specifieke historische conjunctuur. Economisch is er in het laatkapitalisme waarschijnlijk een onomkeerbare achteruitgang wat betreft groei en winst; ecologisch gezien zal het leven op onze planeet steeds akeliger, wreder en korter worden door de toenemende impact van het ‘Capitaloceen’. In de politiek wordt zelfs de façade van ‘democratische’ politiek, die vroeger de leidende ideologie was in de staten van de Noord-Atlantische wereld, op brute wijze neergehaald om de etnisch-nationalistische en etnisch-religieuze structuren achter deze staatsbesturen te onthullen. En sociaal gezien worden sociale structuren, relaties en zingeving kapotgemaakt. Ochieng stelt mogelijke vormen van betrokkenheid voor die deze in elkaar grijpende crises aanpakken. Dat doet hij door middel van ideeën over en praktijken van planetaire onbestuurbaarheid en co-temporele radicaliteit.

Using the sancocho (a pan-Latin American soup with no fixed recipe) as a tool for research and encounter, Mercado Lourdes (Bogotá, Colombia) will host and organize a series of field meals. These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.
