Cinematic Narratives from Elsewhere is een film-georiënteerd publieksprogramma van vertoningen en discussies, dat de tentoonstelling Spacecraft Icarus 13: Narratives of Progress from Elsewhere bij BAK vergezelt. Het programma presenteert alternatieve berichten over de impact van sociaal-politieke veranderingen in de zogenaamde “Derde Wereld” die werden ingegeven door westers geïnspireerde discoursen van vooruitgang en moderniteit. Deze filmische uitingen, die na de dekolonisatie opkwamen, staan ook wel bekend als Third Cinema. De verscheidenheid aan formats die binnen dit programma gepresenteerd worden varieert van documentair tot verhalend, waarbij ze inhoudelijk en qua techniek overduidelijk afwijken van mainstream cinema. De verschillende typen films markeren de uitdrukking van esthetische en politieke zorgen in Third Cinema van de jaren 1960 tot heden. Deze films zetten cinema in als een ruimte van zelfrepresentatie en transformatie. Ze verwoorden zo culturele en politieke kritiek op de hedendaagse realiteit en reflecteren op historische processen als het stichten van staten, die vaak gezien worden als een voortzetting van de imperialistische neigingen van het Westen. Als tegengeluid roepen deze praktijken nieuwe modellen en mogelijkheden op voor het uitdrukken van andere visies op verleden, heden en toekomst.

These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.
