Sarah Vanhee, The Making of Justice, 2017

Op donderdagavond 21 juni 2018 organiseert BAK een speciale filmvertoning van kunstenaar Sarah Vanhee’s The Making of Justice (2017). Na de filmvertoning vindt er een gesprek plaats tussen Sarah Vanhee en Frans-Willem Korsten.

The Making of Justice is een film over zeven gevangenen die samen met Sarah Vanhee een misdaadfilm maken. Net als het hoofdpersonage in de film die zij verzinnen, zijn ze allen schuldig aan moord. Om het verhaal vorm te geven putten ze uit eigen ervaringen, ideeën en verlangens. De kijker kan alleen maar raden of ze fictie gebruiken als middel om hun huidige situatie te bevestigen, te overstijgen of te transformeren. In de loop van de film bespreken de schrijvers misdaad als een parallelle werkelijkheid, het karakter van rechtvaardigheid, en de vraag hoe een maatschappij eruit zou zien als deze gericht was op genezing in plaats van vergelding.

“Justitie is geen synoniem voor gerechtigheid. Justitie is een toepassen van regels en rechtvaardigheid is een capaciteit van mensen”, zegt één van de mannen. Het beeld van “de misdadiger” is altijd ongrijpbaar, zowel in vorm (omdat de lens zelf altijd onscherp is) als inhoud, omdat de acteurs en hun personages zich eerst als mensen voordoen, en daarna pas als misdadigers.

These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.
