De tentoonstelling Spacecraft Icarus 13: Narratives of Progress from Elsewhere, samengesteld door Cosmin Costinas, presenteert een aantal artistieke stellingnamen van kunstenaars van verschillende generaties die reflecteren op alternatieve visies op de toekomst en modellen voor politieke en culturele verandering die verschenen zijn in reactie op de nieuwe omstandigheden van het tijdperk na de Koude Oorlog. De werken spreken krachtig over de noodzaak om voorbij het huidige neoliberale type van vooruitgang te denken.

De tentoonstelling is bij BAK te zien van 9 oktober tot en met 23 december 2011 en bevat werk van Neil Beloufa, Patty Chang en David Kelley, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Mikhail Kalatozov, Kiluanji Kia Henda, Federico Herrero, Yasuzo Masumura, Omar Meneses, Cristina Lucas, Mauro Restiffe, Glauber Rocha, Apichatpong Weerasethakul en Lin Yilin. De opening vindt plaats op 8 oktober om 20.00 uur.

Spacecraft Icarus 13: Narratives of Progress from Elsewhere gaat gepaard met het openbare filmprogramma Cinematic Narratives from Elsewhere, samengesteld door Christina Li.

Using the sancocho (a pan-Latin American soup with no fixed recipe) as a tool for research and encounter, Mercado Lourdes (Bogotá, Colombia) will host and organize a series of field meals. These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.
