In zijn eerste toespraak tot het Amerikaanse Congres na 9/11, gebruikte president Bush het woord ‘angst’ vijf maal. Negen dagen na de aanslagen ontvouwde hij een strategie voor de oorlog tegen het terrorisme met de slogan: “Freedom is at war with fear.” Hiermee begon Bush zijn oorlogscampagne tegen het terrorisme en werd angst benoemd als het tegendeel van vrijheid, als de voornaamste vijand van de democratie en als het belangrijkste wapen van de terroristen. Vrees voor aanslagen heeft geleid tot een permanente angsttoestand. We proberen aan de dreiging een gezicht te geven, de vijand te lokaliseren. Maar de wereld wordt geconfronteerd door een ongebruikelijke vijand, klaarblijkelijk dichtbij, direct en dreigend, maar ook niet-identificeerbaar, als een fantoom, zonder thuisbasis of eigen land. De psychologie van angst speelt al tijden een belangrijke rol in het collectief onderbewuste van mensen in perioden van oorlog. Het werd gebruikt als een krachtig wapen door diegenen die aan de macht waren. Op dit moment lijkt angst een effectief instrument te zijn, niet alleen voor terroristen, maar ook voor regeringen en politieke partijen. Filosoof Henk Oosterling zal in zijn lezing de relatie tussen angst en politiek onder de loep nemen, het actuele gegeven ‘safety utopia’ analyseren en dit relateren aan ontwikkelingen in de hedendaagse kunst. Kunstenaars Pavel Büchler en Kendall Geers zullen praten over angst in relatie tot hun artistieke praktijk en enkele nieuwe projecten presenteren.

These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.
