Op 5 juli 2018 van 19.30 tot 21.30 organiseert BAK een speciale vertoning van de film Spectres (2011). Deze film van kunstenaar Sven Augustijnen wordt voor de eerste keer in Utrecht vertoond. De filmvertoning wordt afgesloten met een gesprek tussen de kunstenaar en BAK-curator Matteo Lucchetti. De vertoning maakt deel uit van het publieksprogramma van de tentoonstelling Eerste persoon meervoud: empathie, intimiteit, ironie en woede (te zien t/m 22 juli 2018). Entree voor de tentoonstelling is inbegrepen bij het filmticket.

In 2011, vijftig jaar na zijn executie, dwaalt Patrice Lumumba, voormalig premier en onafhankelijkheidsleider van Congo, opnieuw rond in België. Augustijnen volgt een voormalig hoge Belgische functionaris die op de dag van Lumumba’s executie, 17 januari 1961, aanwezig was in Elisabethville. Via ontmoetingen, herdenkingen en een terugkeer naar Congo probeert de functionaris de schimmen van dit verleden te bezweren. Op de tonen van de Johannespassie van Johann Sebastian Bach neemt de film Spectres (2011) de toeschouwer mee naar de dekolonisatiegeschiedenis van Belgisch Congo. De film legt zo een dunne lijn bloot tussen legitimering en geschiedschrijving en de traumatische kwesties van verantwoordelijkheid en schuld.

Spectres ontving in 2011 de Public Libraries Prize en GNCR Prize en kreeg een eervolle vermelding van de jury van de International Competition bij FID Marseille. In hetzelfde jaar won de film de Prijs van de Vlaamse Gemeenschap bij Festival Filmer à Tout Prix.

Using the sancocho (a pan-Latin American soup with no fixed recipe) as a tool for research and encounter, Mercado Lourdes (Bogotá, Colombia) will host and organize a series of field meals. These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.
