Als onderdeel van het programma Moving Together: Activism, Art and Education – A Week with Angela Davis (12–17 mei 2018) organiseren 2017/2018 BAK Fellows Isshaq Al-Barbary en Diego Segatto (Campus in Camps) een workshop in BAK.

“Al Maeishah” (“de levenden”, in het Arabisch) is een egalitaire leeromgeving waarin deelnemers gastvrijheid, buurvriendelijkheid en gezamenlijk leren beoefenen en onderzoeken als een radicale politieke daad.

Er is een beperkt aantal plaatsen beschikbaar voor de workshop, dus meld je van tevoren aan om zeker te zijn van een plek. De voertaal is Engels. Aanmelden kan door een bericht te sturen naar steffie@bakonline.org. Kosten voor deelname aan de workshop bedragen €5,-, te betalen bij de entree van BAK. Bij deze prijs is tevens toegang tot de tentoonstelling Eerste persoon meervoud: empathie, intimiteit, ironie en woede inbegrepen, die deze dag open is van 13.00 tot 19.00 uur.

Over Moving Together: Activism, Art and Education – A Week with Angela Davis

Van zaterdag 12 tot en met donderdag 17 mei 2018 vindt op diverse locaties in Amsterdam het bijzondere programma Moving Together: Activism, Art and Education – A Week with Angela Davis plaats in aanwezigheid van de veelbesproken Amerikaanse schrijfster, filosofe, activiste en professor Angela Y. Davis (1944). Moving Together: Activism, Art, and Education – A Week with Angela Davis stelt het werk van Angela Davis en biedt een divers programma voor een breed publiek met performances, debatten en dialogen over urgente thema’s als radicale democratie en sociale rechtvaardigheid in onder andere Tropenmuseum, Academie voor Theater en Dans en de Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

Using the sancocho (a pan-Latin American soup with no fixed recipe) as a tool for research and encounter, Mercado Lourdes (Bogotá, Colombia) will host and organize a series of field meals. These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.

During these sessions—part of the bASIC aCTIVIST kITCHEN (b.a.k.) program in collaboration with Berend Bombarius, De Voorkamer and BAK, basis voor actuele kunst—we want to collectively explore the topic of setting up community kitchens. Different strategies, tools, methodologies, and contexts are explored to learn more about the challenges and opportunities in the practices and theories of community kitchens.
