b.ASIC a.CTIVIST k.ITCHEN & Community Portal present Open Kitchen Weekender, a collaboration between different activists, researchers, brewers, artists & community kitchen practitioners.
A gathering for community kitchens, brewers, food activists, artists, musicians, performers, and any bodies for whom collectivity is a site of action and study. Guided initially by a basic question—how to set up a community kitchen—that multiplied, comrades of the Field Meal Network present a weekend of workshops, cooking sessions, solidarity dinner and market, a sonic DIY expo with music, performances, and installations from Utrecht’s underground scene.

FIELD NOTES
Open Kitchen Weekender enacts the concept of Nuclear Anarchy * (as we learn it from fungal hyphae) and how it could apply to the practice of community building in/out/around institutions. It cross-contaminates multilayered, situated practices with a strong inter-local, DIY mentality, concretely gathering them around a sonic kitchen table. Fermentation is a methodology * * through which sonic practices, oral knowledge systems, and the dining table become tools/spaces for nourishing radical affinities. OKW seeks sporulation of these aural-oral DIY practices found in community kitchens towards other (non)institutional landscapes, however they may organize themselves for emergence and emergency. OKW aspires to sonic culinary mutiny towards sustainable and solidarity-based coll(A)ctivities for non-fascist futures.

ANNOTATIONS
* When looking at Fermentation as a methodology, non-linear time, reciprocity, and contamination are key ingredients for the recipe we cook towards. We would like to reclaim the term “contamination” to a more nourishing realm by highlighting its necessity and essential value for creative (generative? emergent?) and perishable (transformative? dynamic?) collective processes.
* * Nuclear anarchy: a non-linear process or traffic flow in which the participants and the network/infrastructure constantly respond to stimuli, possibilities, and learnings in reciprocity. These stimuli responses lead to changes of direction to which the whole network will respond as well, favoring appealing prospects and moving away from unappealing ones. (E.g., dynamic and responsive networks vs centralized response control; swarm intelligence vs brain intelligence, etc...)

GENEALOGY
Convened by the b.ASIC a.CTIVIST k.ITCHEN and food activist Berend Bombarius, alongside institutional comrades Daniellis Hernández and Renan Laru-an of SAVVY CONTEMPORARY, Berlin; Marina Monsonis of La Cuina del MACBA, Barcelona; and Giulia Orlandi of Berlin Migrant Strikers Kitchen, Berlin. Seeded by BAK Community Portal.
This event is the fifth public meal of the Field Meal Network, a growing mesh of relationships built through field work exploring how community kitchens function as (counter)organized sites of study and solidarity. FMN first unfolded over ten months of documented road trips to a variety of anarchist, autonomous, institutional, para-institutional, anti-institutional and otherwise-organized kitchen initiatives in Berlin, Barcelona, Utrecht, and elsewhere in the Netherlands. Its first institutional comrades were the kitchens at Savvy Contemporary, Berlin and La Cuina del MACBA, Barcelona. FMN wants to continue as long-term research project or curriculum or event program or solidarity resource chain, any kitchens willing to host or join it are welcome to get in touch.
The term Field Meals was proposed by artist Santiago Pinyol as part of his research and public program for the Ultrahospitality study group of Ultradependent Public School (2023).
