Whatever Floats Our Boats schetst een dekoloniale positionering van Curaçao op het wereldtoneel van de twintigste eeuw. Kunstenaar en BAK 2017–2018 Fellow Quinsy Gario presenteert drie momenten van verzet tegen koloniale en dictatoriale praktijken met internationale gevolgen op en via het Nederlandse Caribische eiland.

Aan de hand van archiefmateriaal zoals foto’s, video’s en familieverhalen behandelt Gario het handelen van Venezolaanse revolutionairen, verbannen Portugese soldaten en zwarte Curaçaose havenarbeiders. Hierbij kijkt hij naar de invloed die dit heeft gehad op de militarisering in het Caribisch gebied, de dekolonisatie van Lusofoon Afrika en de onafhankelijkheid van Suriname.

Door gebruik te maken van afbeeldingen uit het archief van het Tropenmuseum, Amsterdam, gevonden archiefmateriaal op YouTube en mondelinge overleveringen wordt een voorstel gedaan voor een andere kijk op de politieke betekenis van het eiland.

Using the sancocho (a pan-Latin American soup with no fixed recipe) as a tool for research and encounter, Mercado Lourdes (Bogotá, Colombia) will host and organize a series of field meals. These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.
