Kunstenaars die werkzaam zijn binnen en gebruik maken van diverse kennisdomeinen, richten zich vaak op informatie, verhalen, alternatieve zienswijzen of gebeurtenissen die in de heersende politieke, economische en geschiedkundige discussies amper aan bod komen. Ze geven deze ‘niet-opgeëiste’ of onderdrukte ‘non-kennis’ een nieuw leven binnen een artistieke context in werken met ingewikkelde verhaallijnen en complexe beeldcomposities. Weten en niet-weten worden omgevormd tot kunstobject of kunstactiviteit. Toch gaat het bij de verscheidene methodes die kunstenaars hanteren om (non-)kennis in hun werk te gebruiken niet zozeer om een simpele ‘visuele representatie’ of opheldering van het onbekende. In plaats daarvan opereren kunstenaars zelf vaak in een gebied tussen rationalisatie en intuïtie, planning en toevalligheid, blootstelling en verhulling. Zoals de filosoof Jacques Rancière schreef: “_[…] artistic phenomena are identified by their adherence to a specific regime of the sensible, which is extricated from its ordinary connections and is inhabited by a heterogeneous power, the power of a form of thought that has become foreign to itself: a product identical with something not produced, knowledge transformed into non-knowledge, logos identical with pathos, the intention of the unintentional, etc.”
In hun diversiteit en heterogeniteit behouden deze vormen van ‘kennis/non-kennis’ hun kritisch potentieel en alternatieve inhoud. Niet-opgeëiste kennis oefent zijn specifieke macht uit middels zijn tweeslachtigheid of onzekerheid en niet, zoals in bestaande kennissystemen, door zijn status als autoriteit die de ‘waarheid’ in pacht heeft. Hedendaagse kunstwerken, zowel de visuele als de ‘non-retinal’ (Duchamp), vragen om de actieve betrokkenheid van de beschouwer bij zowel de vorm als de inhoud. Hoe kan dit spel van kennis en non-kennis verspreid worden en een publiek vinden? Lenen de ruimten van hedendaagse kunstmusea en galerieën zich voor het delen van dit soort kennis?

Unclaimed Knowledge onderzoekt de wijze waarop gemarginaliseerde kennis om wordt gezet in nieuwe vormen (artistieke kennis,
‘non-knowledge’) binnen hedendaagse kunstpraktijken, en gaat in op de specifieke rol van het ‘visuele’ in deze praktijken.

Using the sancocho (a pan-Latin American soup with no fixed recipe) as a tool for research and encounter, Mercado Lourdes (Bogotá, Colombia) will host and organize a series of field meals. These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.
