De tentoonstelling Artur Zmijewski: The Social Studio omvat een selectie recente werken van Artur Zmijewski, waaronder de video’s Them (2007) en Repetition (2005), die beschreven kunnen worden als ‘social studios,’ sociale experimenten die op een provocerende en openlijk confronterende wijze op film zijn vastgelegd.
Zmijewski gelooft dat kunst alleen haar waarde voor de maatschappij kan herwinnen wanneer ze maatschappelijke conflicten aan de kaak stelt en de omstandigheden laat zien waardoor maatschappelijke tegenstellingen door de gevestigde orde gecultiveerd en in stand worden gehouden. Ervan overtuigd zijnde dat de fel bevochten autonomie van de kunst (waarbij kunst als onafhankelijk van de ‘echte’ wereld wordt gezien) in feite het vermogen van de kunst om zich te laten gelden als belangrijke publieke stem heeft ontnomen, eist Zmijewski nadrukkelijk dat de kunst haar verantwoordelijkheid neemt en een dialoog aangaat met de huidige sociale en politieke realiteit waarin we leven. Op deze manier kan kunst bijdragen aan het vormen van deze realiteit door de wereld anders te verbeelden dan dat wij het kennen.

Using the sancocho (a pan-Latin American soup with no fixed recipe) as a tool for research and encounter, Mercado Lourdes (Bogotá, Colombia) will host and organize a series of field meals. These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.
