Van zondag 6 september tot maandag 9 november 2009 presenteert BAK, basis voor actuele kunst Surplus Value, een solotentoonstelling van Mona Vatamanu en Florin Tudor. De opening vindt plaats op zaterdag 5 september 2009 om 16.00 uur bij BAK.

De tentoonstelling Surplus Value van de Roemeense kunstenaars Mona Vatamanu en Florin Tudor presenteert een selectie van werken in uiteenlopende media van 2000 tot op heden, evenals nieuwe producties die speciaal voor deze gelegenheid gemaakt zijn. In het kader van Surplus Value brengen BAK en post editions, Rotterdam de monografische publicatie Mona Vatamanu and Florin Tudor uit. Surplus Value is de eerste onderzoekstentoonstelling binnen het langlopende project FORMER WEST (2008–2016).

Ter afsluiting van zowel de tentoonstelling als het 1e FORMER WEST Congres vindt een finissage plaats op 8 november van 16.00–19.00 uur, georganiseerd in het kader van Culturele Zondagen, Utrecht.

Using the sancocho (a pan-Latin American soup with no fixed recipe) as a tool for research and encounter, Mercado Lourdes (Bogotá, Colombia) will host and organize a series of field meals. These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.

Different strategies, tools, methodologies, and contexts are explored to learn more about the challenges and opportunities in the practices and theories of community kitchens.
