Satellietbeelden zijn steeds meer nadrukkelijk aanwezig in de hedendaagse cultuur en zijn een bevoorrechte manier om veranderingen op onze planeet weer te geven en te begrijpen op een ruimtelijke schaal. Maar hun gladde voorkomen verhult de complexiteit – om nog niet te spreken van de politiek – van het onderliggende fotografische mechanisme dat in staat is om beelden vast te leggen, aan elkaar te plakken en dergelijke beelden te verspreiden. Wanneer satellietbeelden bijvoorbeeld gebruikt worden als bewijsmateriaal voor klimaatverandering, moeten velden van pixels omgevormd worden tot tastbare informatie. Terwijl ze waarheid beloven, brengen deze processen van interpretatie nieuwe betwistbare ruimtes tot stand.

Met de bewijsvoeringsmethode van teledetectie of ‘remote sensing’ als onderwerp, presenteert Samaneh Moafi Ecocide in Indonesia, 2016, een onderzoek naar de branden van 2015 op Kalimantan en Sumatra die ruim 21.000 vierkante kilometer bos- en turfland verwoestten. Hilde Brontsema presenteert Friends of the Earth Netherlands vs. Royal Dutch Shell, een lopende rechtszaak waarin vier Nigeriaanse burgers Shell voor de rechter dagen vanwege olielekkages die hun akkers en viskweekvijvers hebben vervuild.

Onderdeel van Propositions #7: Evidentiary Methods

Propositions #7: Evidentiary Methods – het publieke programma in de context van de tentoonstelling Forensic Justice en dat deel uitmaakt van BAK’s reeks Propositions for Non-Fascist Living (2017–2020) – gaat dieper in op de notie van forensic justice in een reeks lezingen, filmvertoningen en workshops over verschillende methodologieën om claims te uiten in de meerdimensionale ruimte van esthetiek, recht, architectuur, politiek en ecologie. Het programma zorgt voor een dieper inzicht in de werken van, of gemaakt in samenwerking met, Forensic Architecture, inclusief onderzoeken die geen deel van de tentoonstelling uitmaken. De bijeenkomsten zijn vooral gericht op de technieken en innovatieve bewijsvoeringsmethoden op het raakvlak van recht, kunst, politiek en het veranderlijke medialandschap dat in de forensische praktijk toegepast wordt, en scheppen de gelegenheid voor een dialoog en uitwisseling tussen de concrete zaken die door Forensic Architecture onderzocht zijn en andere lopende activistische campagnes in Nederland en daarbuiten. De reeks is opgezet in samenwerking met Nick Axel (architectuurtheoreticus, Amsterdam).

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.

Different strategies, tools, methodologies, and contexts are explored to learn more about the challenges and opportunities in the practices and theories of community kitchens.
