Propositions #2: Assemblism is een dagvullende bijeenkomst in reactie op de opkomst van een nieuwe autoritaire wereldorde, en op de miljoenen mensen die hiertegen in verzet komen in bevrijde autonome zones, bezette gebouwen, pleinen, gevangenissen en culturele ruimtes en gezamenlijk een egalitaire maatschappij opeisen. Wat is de democratische cultuur die zich manifesteert middels dergelijke assemblees? En hoe draagt democratische cultuur bij aan het tot stand brengen van nieuwe vormen van emancipatoir (zelf)bestuur?

Cultuurwerkers, vertegenwoordigers van politieke organisaties en activisten bediscussiëren tijdens deze bijeenkomst de culturele dimensies van assemblistische praktijken, van nieuwe pan-Europese bewegingen tot vormen van niet-menselijke samenkomst, in verkenning van nieuwe allianties.

Dit is de tweede performatieve conferentie in Propositions for Non-Fascist Living. De bijeenkomst vindt op geïmproviseerde wijze plaats te midden van de renovatie van BAK’s nieuwe locatie en brengt diverse publieken samen om in te gaan op de dringende kwesties van onze tijd. Het programma wordt afgesloten met de boekpresentatie van Roet in het Eten van dichter, kunstenaar en 2017–2018 BAK Fellow Quinsy Gario.

Propositions #2: Assemblism is ontwikkeld in navolging van de samenwerking in 2017 tussen BAK en de campagne New Unions (2016–doorlopend) van Studio Jonas Staal in samenwerking met onder andere architect Paul Kuipers en vormgever Remco van Bladel. Hierin werden in een samenwerking met de pan-Europese Democracy in Europe Movement 2025 (DiEM25) de installaties voor hun publieke bijeenkomsten vormgegeven. Uit deze campagne voortgekomen werken zijn ook onderdeel van de performatieve conferentie bij BAK.

Using the sancocho (a pan-Latin American soup with no fixed recipe) as a tool for research and encounter, Mercado Lourdes (Bogotá, Colombia) will host and organize a series of field meals. These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.

Different strategies, tools, methodologies, and contexts are explored to learn more about the challenges and opportunities in the practices and theories of community kitchens.
