Steeds opnieuw lijken stemmen in de media een conflict tussen het Westen, de Verlichting en secularisme aan de ene kant, en herrijzende religieus fundamentalistische stromingen aan de andere te verkondigen. Lange tijd heerste onder vele Europese stedelingen de overtuiging dat religie onvermijdelijk verder zou afnemen; modernisering werd gezien als onlosmakelijk verbonden met secularisatie. Tegenwoordig kan de wedergeboorte van religie niet meer worden afgedaan als een illusie en vormt het evenmin een probleemloze realiteit. Ze is eerder te beschouwen als een mythe, of een verzameling mythen, die samen met concurrerende seculiere mythen de werkelijkheid vorm geven. Aan paradoxen geen gebrek. Kan er niet gezegd worden dat zowel militante seculieren als ‘Verlichtingsfundamentalisten’ eigenlijk ‘het seculiere’ zelf heilig verklaren? En hebben monotheïstische godsdiensten niet van tijd tot tijd gefunctioneerd als instrumenten van secularisatie, niet in het minst tijdens de Reformatie? Zoals filosoof Marc De Kesel heeft geschreven is de paradox van het monotheďsme dat het een kritiek op religie is die zichzelf manifesteert als religie. Deze bijeenkomst reflecteert op verschillende religieuze en seculiere verhalen en tracht gaandeweg inzicht te geven in mogelijke toekomstscenario’s die verder gaan dan die van een ‘botsing tussen beschavingen’ zonder uitkomst.

Using the sancocho (a pan-Latin American soup with no fixed recipe) as a tool for research and encounter, Mercado Lourdes (Bogotá, Colombia) will host and organize a series of field meals. These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.
