Jeanne van Heeswijk
Jeanne van Heeswijk’s projecten kenmerken zich door sociale betrokkenheid. Haar doel is het stimuleren en ontwikkelen van culturele productie. Een ander onderdeel van haar kunstenaarspraktijk is het scheppen van nieuwe publieke (ontmoetings-)ruimtes of het daartoe hervormen van bestaande ruimtes. Vaak werkt ze daarbij intensief samen met kunstenaars, vormgevers, architecten, software ontwikkelaars, overheden en buurtbewoners. Aan de hand van haar recente projecten zoals De Strip, Stedelijklab Slotervaart en Dwaallicht richt Jeanne van Heeswijk zich in deze lezing op de vraag naar het produceren van artistieke modellen voor politieke participatie.
Jeanne van Heeswijk (Schijndel, 1965) studeerde beeldende kunst aan de Jan van Eyck Academie, Maastricht (1988-1990) en kunsteducatie aan de Academie voor Beeldende Vorming, Tilburg (1983-1988).
Deze lezing is onderdeel van MAHKU platform, een maandelijks forum voor artistieke en theoretische reflectie opgezet in samenwerking met Utrecht Graduate School of Visual art and Design. De vragen die kunsttheoreticus Irit Rogoff stelde tijdens de performance The World Question Center (Reloaded) deel 3, Now What? Dreaming a better world in six parts geven het kader aan waarbinnen de focus van MAHKU Platform in 2005 wordt vastgesteld: “Hoe kunnen we de betekenis begrijpen van deelname aan de visuele cultuur buiten de conventionele rollen van producent, beschouwer, etc.? Op welke wijze kunnen we onszelf onderdeel maken van de geëxposeerde objecten?”

Using the sancocho (a pan-Latin American soup with no fixed recipe) as a tool for research and encounter, Mercado Lourdes (Bogotá, Colombia) will host and organize a series of field meals. These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.
