In de zomer van 2015 organiseert BAK, samen met kunstenaar, onderzoeker en docent Klaas Hoek, een presentatie van een aantal uitkomsten van het interdisciplinaire onderzoeksproject Lines of Thought, dat gaat over de rol van tekenen in (wetenschappelijke) creatieve processen.
Op 2 februari leidt Hoek al een gelijknamig symposium, Lines of Thought, in.
“Dit symposium maakt deel uit van een interdisciplinair onderzoeksproject dat de belangrijke rol die tekenen in het creatieve proces speelt, onderzoekt en ter discussie stelt. Aristoteles stelde al dat denken onmogelijk is zonder een beeld. Tekenen is een manier van denken, en tevens een uiting hiervan. Visuele beelden waren en zijn nog altijd van groot belang voor wetenschappelijke creativiteit.
Een mooi voorbeeld van een visualisatie die bijdraagt aan het begrip is het gebruik van media door Watson en Crick, die in hun streven om de structuur van DNA bloot te leggen vaak artistieke praktijken bezigden. Als kunstenaars en wetenschappers hun methodologieën zouden delen, zouden ze misschien raakvlakken vinden in het creatieve proces: ze zouden op een fundamenteel niveau kennis kunnen delen om zo nieuwe kennis te genereren. Impliceert dit de mogelijkheid van een ‘oproep tot het indienen van tekeningen’?”

Using the sancocho (a pan-Latin American soup with no fixed recipe) as a tool for research and encounter, Mercado Lourdes (Bogotá, Colombia) will host and organize a series of field meals. These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.
