Yonatan Gat & The Eastern Medicine Singers live at Le Guess Who? 2018
Dit jaar is BAK een van de festivallocaties van Le Guess Who?: een festival voor grensverleggende muziek van over de hele wereld. De dertiende editie vindt plaats van 7 tot en met 10 november in Utrecht.
Gedurende vier dagen neemt Le Guess Who? de stad Utrecht over. Meer dan 150 artiesten treden op in popzalen, theaters, kerken, oude fabriekspanden en werfkelders. Satellietevenementen zoals exposities, installaties, filmvertoningen, sessies, markten en gratis muziekprogrammering nemen bezit van Utrechtse horeca, pleinen, filmhuizen, galeries en de verborgen hoeken van de stad.
BAK organiseert een speciaal samengestelde performance in de context van Trainings for the Not-Yet. Hiervoor brachten Le Guess Who? en kunstenaar Jeanne van Heeswijk de in Chicago gevestigde pianist, klarinettist en componist Angel Bat Dawid in contact met beeldend kunstenaar, activist en ‘womanist’ Patricia Kaersenhout. Daarnaast is de huidige tentoonstelling van BAK door Jeanne van Heeswijk vrij toegankelijk voor alle Le Guess Who? bezoekers*.
Andere optredens bij BAKOp vrijdag 8 november treden Vincent Moon & Priscilla Telmon op in het Auditorium, met de performance SACRED+S. Deze multidisciplinaire geluidskunstenaars en onafhankelijke filmmakers produceren samen etnografische experimentele films en muziekopnames, gebaseerd op materiaal verzameld tijdens hun vele reizen. Op zondag 10 november zijn er optredens van Grimm Grimm, Ed Dowie en Group Listening.*Let op: het werk Acts of Balance van Jeanne van Heeswijk & Afrikaanderwijk Cooperatië, zal niet te zien zijn tijdens het weekend van Le Guess Who?

Using the sancocho (a pan-Latin American soup with no fixed recipe) as a tool for research and encounter, Mercado Lourdes (Bogotá, Colombia) will host and organize a series of field meals. These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.

Different strategies, tools, methodologies, and contexts are explored to learn more about the challenges and opportunities in the practices and theories of community kitchens.
