Het Gender Programme en het Departement voor Kunstbeleid en -management van de Universiteit Utrecht presenteren, in samenwerking met BAK, basis voor actuele kunst, Utrecht en het Centre for the Humanities van de Universiteit Utrecht, de mastercursus Curating (Beyond) Exhibitions: Critical Curatorial Practices and Contemporary Society. De cursus, opgezet als een serie lezingen en seminars, gaat in op de dynamische praktijk van het samenstellen van tentoonstellingen vis-ŕ-vis de uitdagingen waarmee artistieke en intellectuele praktijken in de hedendaagse maatschappij te maken hebben, en neemt het jaar 1989—dat het einde van de Koude Oorlog inluidt— als beginpunt om de beoefening van het curatorschap te onderzoeken.

Deze cursus is samengesteld voor zowel universiteitsstudenten als mensen buiten de academische context, zoals professionals in de kunsten en curatoren die aan het begin van hun carrière staan. We verwelkomen studenten van elk niveau, hoewel van bachelorstudenten wordt vereist dat ze hun affiniteit met het onderwerp aantonen.

Curating (Beyond) Exhibitions wordt gedoceerd door Maria Hlavajova, artistiek directeur van BAK. Zij zal worden bijgestaan door curatoren en kunstenaars uit Nederland en het buitenland. Seminars worden geleid door dr. Marta Zarzycka, docent van het Gender Programme en het Departement voor Kunstbeleid en -management aan de UU. Gedurende acht lezingen en acht seminars worden de beginselen van het ontwikkelen van artistieke projecten, die betrekking hebben op sociale en politieke thema’s (met name het feminisme en genderkwesties), behandeld. Ook zal er aandacht worden besteed aan theoretische modellen van publieke betrokkenheid en de relatie tussen de publieke kunstruimte en democratische modellen, of mogelijkheden. Specifieke benaderingen en projecten, zowel als verschillende soorten instituten, worden bestudeerd.

Using the sancocho (a pan-Latin American soup with no fixed recipe) as a tool for research and encounter, Mercado Lourdes (Bogotá, Colombia) will host and organize a series of field meals. These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.
