BAK presenteert het veelzijdige project Cordially Invited, dat bestaat uit een tentoonstelling en een serie discussies, filmvertoningen en performances over gastvrijheid en migratie. De tentoonstelling is te bezichtigen bij BAK en het Centraal Museum in Utrecht.
Cordially Invited onderzoekt de kwestie van gastvrijheid in relatie met een onderwerp dat wereldwijd grote politieke en morele consequenties heeft: migratie. Het project brengt kwesties rond migratie in kaart via het begrip ‘cordial invitation’, opgevat als een symbolisch instrument dat gebruikt kan worden om te bemiddelen tussen twee imaginaire, onbereikbare doelen: het onbeperkte recht van een mens om politieke en economische grenzen te passeren, en de onvoorwaardelijke acceptatie die dit recht met zich meebrengt. De tentoonstelling is samengesteld door de curatoren Maria Hlavajova en Gerardo Mosquera en presenteert werken van eenentwintig internationale kunstenaars, kunstenaarscollectieven en cultureel producenten.
Elke woensdag organiseert Nomads & Residents discussies, screenings en performances met a.o. Mariana Celac, Calin Dan, Lisl Ponger, Ruxandra Balaci, Charles Esche, Raimundas Malasauskas, Marko Raat, Dan and Lia Perjovschi, Julika Rudelius, Geert Mul, Pablo Helguera, Jelena Vesic, Brett Bloom, Monika Wucher, Kees Bleichrodt, Vesna Madzoski, Nasrin Tabatabai, en Babak Afrassiabi. Elke zondag presenteert IDFA Europe.doc, IDFA’s gaze on the EUmet documentaire films van Marcel Lozinski, Jos de Putter, Leszek Dawid, Marjoleine Boonstra, Ulrich Seidl, Joost Conijn, Joakim Denner, Paul Devlin, Raymond Depardon, Angus Macqueen, en Sarah Vos.
Het project is gerealiseerd in samenwerking met het Prins Claus Fonds, Den Haag; Centraal Museum, Utrecht en IDFA (International Documentary Filmfestival Amsterdam). Cordially Invited *is de derde episode van het beeldende kunst programma *Who if not we…? 7 episodes on (ex)changing Europe en wordt gerealiseerd in het kader van Thinking Forward, het culturele programma naar aanleiding van het Nederlandse voorzitterschap van de Europese Unie. Het project komt tot stand met financiële bijdragen van: Thinking Forward, 2004; de gemeente Utrecht en de provincie Utrecht met een bijdrage in het kader van het programma Vrede van Utrecht 2013; VSBfonds; NCDO, Amsterdam; het Tsjechisch Centrum, Den Haag; Ambassade van de Republiek Polen, Den Haag.

These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.
