Training VIII
Decommodifying Housing: How to Get There?
The eighth training as part of Trainings for the Not-Yet is with Homebaked Community Land Trust (CLT) (Britt Jurgensen), De Nieuwe Meent (Selçuk Balamir), de Kasko (Joska Ottjes), Refugee Collective We Are Here, Ethel Baraona Pohl, Cristina Gamboa and Irene Calabuch Miron. It takes place from 16-20 October 2019 (Wednesday-Sunday). The training consists of discussions, exchange, and cooking.
How to undo—and then get rid of—a model in which housing has become a commodity? Decommodifying Housing: How to Get There? is a training in which different collectives that work toward radical alternatives of making housing livable, affordable, and egalitarian share their experiences and strategies. In the context of a housing crisis that presents itself on an international scale, participants work together on identifying the commonalities of various local struggles, aiming to form alliances and start a process of mutual learning.
What can be done to shape a post-capitalistic housing model? Nurturing solidarity and cooperation, and shaping space through relationships and relationships through architecture: these are priorities for such an undertaking—but where to start? During four days of discussion and exchange, this training aims to develop a collaborative public document to share accumulated insights, in order not only to strengthen the projects of those involved, but also plant the seeds of future understanding and collaboration.
When: 16–20 October 2019 (Wednesday–Sunday):
Wednesday 18–21 hrs, starting with dinner from 18–19 hrs. Rest of the days 14–18 hrs, followed on weekdays by dinner from 18–19 hrs and preceded at the weekend by lunch from 13–14 hrs in the Basic Activist Kitchen.
On Sunday 20 October 2019, 14-18 hrs, the training culminates in a public program that is part of the training (and free for training participants), but also open to the general public (with a separate ticket).
Participation: This is a five-day training. It is possible to join on individual days, although attending the training in its entirety is encouraged.
