Open Kitchen: Pin-only Hostility

VOKU table talks session
organized by Berend Bombarius from the b.ASIC a.CTIVIST k.ITCHEN

Thursdays the b.ASIC a.CTIVIST k.ITCHEN is open!

We together cook a delicious and accessible plant-based meal; organize program and hold a space for the extended network of community kitchens, food activists, friends, comrades, creatives and Basecamp inhabitants to gather, share, learn, un-learn and enjoy a meal together. Each week tastes like a different #Kitchen Takeover# This week our friend and fellow b.a.k. core team member Berend Bombarius facilitates a conversation around cashless/cashfull hospitality.

During this evening we dive into the effects of pin-only policies within hospitality practices. How does it function as hostility? More and more (hip) places in the hospitality sector do not accept CASH anymore. They claim that pin-only is safer and more 'easy'. But for who? Who is benefitting and who cannot pay anymore? Who is surveilled, and can afford to be surveilled?

As a community kitchen, we are also navigating hospitality. We want to work on tactics to help us challenge the current trend of becoming more pin-only.

Participants will be encouraged to use their imaginaries to produce counter practices or create visuals that expose the injustices that go along with pin-only policies
