Living a Revolutionary Life
Assembling in Resistance with Reading Counterpower Amsterdam
how do we unlearn the western tendency to compartmentalize all of life? How to live a revolutionary life in all its aspects?
In this first gathering, we will explore revolutionary (health)care. Care, health and illness under capitalism has become another tool for exploitation. We will read about how the concept of (self)care on a microlevel is rooted in neoliberal individualism and how measuring one’s health is actually a tool for control. We will also zoom out, exploring how our (health)care systems profit of our health and illness and organises our lives in ways that serve the state. How can we move from the capitalist notion of health as a commodity to a communal understanding of care?
We will chew on these questions while nourishing ourselves; we eat together, we read together. We will take turns reading two texts aloud. Afterward, we harvest whatever insights we got from the texts.

About Reading Counterpower Amsterdam
Reading Counterpower Amsterdam is a gathering that happens triweekly on Wednesdays in Amsterdam. During our reading sessions we take turns to collectively read revolutionary texts aloud and afterward, we harvest whatever insights it has sown. With this we hope to learn from past and present struggles and build community while doing so.

About Assembling in Resistance
Assembling in Resistance is a programmatic line curated by artist and organizer Iliada Charalambous. During these gatherings, participants learn together about forms of coming together in and for resistance by reading collectively with and about diverse resistance movements, alternative forms of (self)governance and assembling.
