Stateless Democracy: The Revolution in Rojava Kurdistan is de openingsconferentie van de vijfde editie van New World Academy (NWA).
Deze gespreksavond behandelt het huidige Koerdische verzet tegen ISIS in Kobanê, Rojava. Vertegenwoordigers van de Koerdische beweging en deskundigen in het veld dragen bij aan een verkenning van de politiek en de cultuur van Rojava en de redenen achter de oprichting en groei van de zelfverklaarde Islamitische Staat. Daarnaast komt ook de vraag aan bod hoe de internationale gemeenschap en de burgermaatschappij zouden kunnen helpen — niet alleen om ISIS tegen te houden, maar belangrijker nog, om een lokale beweging te steunen die een nieuwe democratische horizon biedt waarvan de wereld zou kunnen leren.
Sprekers zijn onder meer: Dilşah Osman (co-president van de Kurdish Democratic Society Congress in Europe, KCD-E), Dilar Dirik (PhD onderzoeker en activist van de Koerdische Vrouwenbeweging, Cambridge), en Joost Jongerden (onderzoeker en deskundige in de Koerdische Beweging, Universiteit Wageningen), met bijdragen van Jolle Demmers (mede-oprichter van de Centre for Conflict Studies, Universiteit Utrecht), Dilan Yezilgoz-Zegerius (voormalig Amnesty International Turkije-specialist en ** ** VVD-raadslid), Jasper Blom (wetenschappelijk bureau GroenLinks), Golrokh Nafisi (kunstenaar), en Jonas Staal (kunstenaar en oprichter van de New World Summit, Rotterdam).
De eerste conferentie van [NWA #5] wordt georganiseerd door een samenwerkingsverband van BAK, basis voor actuele kunst, Utrecht, Centre for Conflict Studies, Universiteit Utrecht, en De Balie, Amsterdam.

Using the sancocho (a pan-Latin American soup with no fixed recipe) as a tool for research and encounter, Mercado Lourdes (Bogotá, Colombia) will host and organize a series of field meals. These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.
