Olga Chernysheva, David Riff
Op dinsdag 15 maart om 20.00 uur geeft de in Moskou woonachtige kunstcriticus en schrijver David Riff een lezing over het werk van Olga Chernysheva. In deze lezing beschouwt hij de herformulering en herontdekking van realisme in het werk van Chernysheva en tevens de kritische en politieke implicaties van deze benadering, met name in de context van het hedendaagse Rusland. Ter afsluiting van de lezing wordt de vierde BAK Critical Reader, On Horizons: A Critical Reader in Contemporary Art (Utrecht/Rotterdam: BAK en post editions, 2011) gepresenteerd.
Het FORMER WEST digital archive bevat verscheidene opnames van lezingen en conversaties door David Riff, waaronder een interview met Cosmin Costinas, en zijn bijdragen aan het 1e FORMER WEST Congres, Utrecht, 2009 en het FORMER WEST Research Seminar Where the West Ends?, Museum of Modern Art in Warschau, 18 maart 2010.

Using the sancocho (a pan-Latin American soup with no fixed recipe) as a tool for research and encounter, Mercado Lourdes (Bogotá, Colombia) will host and organize a series of field meals. These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.
