Language Gulf in the Shouting Valley portretteert de gemeenschap van de Druzen, een Levantijnse religieuze minderheid binnen de ismaïlitische tak van de Islam. Opnamen van Druzesoldaten die als tolk werken in het Israëlische militaire rechtssysteem op de Westelijke Jordaanoever en in Gaza worden afgezet tegen opnamen die gemaakt zijn in de “roepvallei” in de Golanhoogvlakte. Daar verzamelt de Druzebevolking zich aan beide kanten van de Israëlisch-Syrische grens om over de grenzen van rechtsgebieden heen naar familie en vrienden aan de overkant te roepen. Ze zetten taal in als een middel om zich door de gemilitariseerde ruimte te manoeuvreren en zich ertegen te verzetten. De Druzen zijn omdat ze het grensgebied tussen Israël, Palestina en Syrië bewonen noodgedwongen meertalig: de veranderlijkheid van taal is hier een echo van de instabiliteit van grondgebieden.

Using the sancocho (a pan-Latin American soup with no fixed recipe) as a tool for research and encounter, Mercado Lourdes (Bogotá, Colombia) will host and organize a series of field meals. These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.

Different strategies, tools, methodologies, and contexts are explored to learn more about the challenges and opportunities in the practices and theories of community kitchens.
