Garage School of Medicine is happy to announce upcoming events at BAK / BASECAMP for Tactical Imaginaries. We invite you to join us as we explore Metabolic Literacies and Transformations of Matter in the context of an institution in transformation.
The first event, study session ‘Shit & Exhaustion’ explores metabolic rifts and decomposition through collective reading, discussion and hands-on study.
We will collectively read extracts of Vanessa Machado de Oliveira’s Hospicing Modernity; Facing Humanity's Wrongs and the Implications for Social Activism in which the author proposes metabolism as a way to break the dichotomy between individualism and collectivism. Reflecting on lessons learned from indigenous communities in Peru, the author asks how we can improve our metabolic literacies?
During and after reading we will perform gestures and prepare simple recipes which enact metabolic processes within and outside of our bodies, such as lacto-fermentation.
The workshop is free, all welcome
(vegan soup provided)
