Architectures of Suspended Time
participatory mapping workshop

The workshop focuses onRoute 60, the main north–south artery running through the West Bank and connecting Palestinian villages, towns, cities, and refugee camps. These connections are increasingly fragmented through checkpoints, road gates, barriers, and other forms of closure.
Working in small groups, participants will engage with satellite imagery, geospatial data, maps documenting the checkpoint system, and collected social media content from the ground. Through short readings and collective analysis, we will learn to read the landscape not as neutral geography, but as an active instrument of colonial control—and examine the navigational practices and forms of resistance that emerge in response.
Each group will focus on a specific roadblock, stretch of road, village, or area, bringing different sources together to construct a spatial case study and collectively discuss what maps and images can reveal, what they obscure, and how evidence can move across borders when bodies cannot. No prior experience is needed. Bring a laptop if you have one; we can pair you up if not. We'll introduce every tool and method on the day, working with freely available satellite imagery, shared datasets, and ground footage.
