Curated by Simon Sheikh, the exhibition Vectors of the Possible at BAK, basis voor actuele kunst includes contributions by Matthew Buckingham, chto delat/What is to be done, Freee, Sharon Hayes, Runo Lagomarsino & Johan Tirén, Elske Rosenfeld, Hito Steyerl, and Ultra-red. The exhibition runs at BAK from 12 September till 28 November 2010 and opens on 11 September at 18.00 hrs.
The exhibition examines the notion of the horizon in art and politics and explores the ways in which art works can be said to set up certain horizons of possibility and impossibility, how art partakes in specific imaginaries, and how it can produce new ones, thus suggesting other ways of imagining the world. Besides several of the artists, curator Simon Sheikh will be present at the opening, where he will discuss the various conceptual starting points for the exhibition and will respond to questions raised by the project.
Vectors of the Possible is a research exhibition organized within the framework of FORMER WEST (2008–2016), a long-term, multifaceted international research, education, publishing, and exhibition project. For more information on FORMER WEST, see here.
